Artist Statement

My work is primarily about the fluctuation between wonderment and ambivalence toward natural phenomena, interconnectedness and solitude in communications and fear and hope in technology. They contemplate the way that recent technologies, access to information and media alter the way that the world is perceived and understood. I create virtual spaces in which astronauts, elephants, futuristic architectures collide with historical imagery, art historical styles and nuances.

The source of my images, compositional elements and techniques varies widely reflecting the broad access to media, music, images and text that we enjoy because of Internet and networking capabilities. The work I create also relies on the unique and inherent qualities that painting provides as a form of communication. I combine traditional methods and materials with contemporary technique to create paintings that clearly respect and draw on the lineage of painting, while dealing with current issues.
